These explosions can be used for a smaller nuclear explosion when a space shuttle launches to be more environmentally friendly. Astrophysicists have been studying the same method of small explosions for rocket propulsion. A different thing antimatter can be used for is for astronomy. This technique has already been tested on hamsters and it was a success, but researchers have yet to test this method on human cells. Using antiprotons will add an extra burst of energy. Physicians have already discovered that they can target tumors with beams of particles that will release their energy after safely passing through human tissue. Another medical-ish use for antimatter is for cancer therapy. These annihilations produce gamma rays which can be used to make high resolution images of the body. One of the things that antimatter can be used for is “positron emission tomography” which uses positrons that will meet electrons in the body and annihilate each other. Of course antimatter still exists in deep parts of space and the cosmic rays produced from antimatter still rains down on this world, so if you want to know where to find antimatter, just know that you’re currently creating some right now. Since the antimatter creates some energy and radiation, about 600 bananas have about as much radiation as an X-Ray scan. A particle accelerator smashes protons together at the speed of light, similar to 2 snowballs crashing into each other. At research centers like CERN there are particle a ccelerators to create antimatter. However, humans are surprisingly still creating antimatter both with science and naturally. Because of this, it would seem that antimatter is very dangerous and it’s one of those things where an evil genius would get ahold of to destroy the world. Antimatter and matter collide and annihilate each other on contact, because of the magnetic field and the decay rates of antiparticles, there are more matter particles which went on to create our planet. and the electrons surround the nucleus, so this would be opposite in an antiparticle. In a particle, protons and neutrons form the nucleus. A positively charged particle like a proton and a negatively charged particle like an electron are switched so a proton is an antiproton (negative) and an electron is a positron (positive). ![]() All of the particles have an opposite charge. Antimatter is exactly like matter except for one big difference. Things like the air, the earth, a volcano, the ocean and even you are all made up of matter. Matter is a combination of particles that fill up empty space. Look the thing next to you, whether it is a wall, a cushion on your sofa, or another person, it is composed of something called matter. Recent research into the chemistry production and uses of antimatter will have incredible implications for the future of science.
